How to buy a DR 650 RSE in Germany
Hi everybody,
Thanks for Dennis for posting my questions.
Daniel Hörl and Olaf Köhne for e-mail me.
I have just registered at the forum.
I'm from Brazil, live in Brazil now. I speak a bit of english, espanish and of course portuguese. No german now!!!
Here in Brazil I have a Honda NX 350 Sahara that I have rode for some places like Ushuaia, Atacama desert and Uyuni Salar (Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay).
I'm registered as ROHDEN at some foruns :
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com
http://www.advrider.com
http://www.saharamaniacos.com.br (brazilian forum about my bike)
Me and my motorbike Honda NX 350 Sahara in Chile:

My questions are the following:
I intend to travel from Germany to Norway then Russia and others countries in Asia. So I intend to buy a motorbike in Germany, a motorbike with a low budget, low maintenance and sturdy.
In Brazil we have few DR's (650 RSE, RE and 800) and everybody who has them say they are sturdy motorbikes.
I have seen some DR 650 SE and RSE and http://www.mobile.de. Comparing with the brazilian prices they are very cheap in Germany.
My questions:
1- Is it possible for a brazilian buy a motorbike in Germany? By the way I intend just arrive in Germany and buy the motorbike.
2- If it's possible, how long does it take, I mean about the papers?
3- I would like to buy a DR 650 RSE because of the good tank size, windshield and its style, sturdy, low maintenance, low price, etc. I kown that it's a motorbike with more than 10 years, but I have seen many with low km at MOBILE and prices at about $2.500,00 euros.
Is that correct? Anybody against this motorbike?
By the way I intend to ride during 06 months for about 50.000 km.
4-What about the spare parts to this model DR 650 RSE in Germany? Can I find them easily?
Spare parts I mean the parts that we change every year like chain, sprockets, brakes, etc.
5- In case of not to DR 650 RSE, I would ride a DR 650 SE with some changes: tank, windshield, seat.
I would appreciate your opinions, my budget to a bike is about $2.500,00 euros!!!
If anyone of you coming to Brazil, tell me!!!
My best wishes,
Reginaldo Rohden.

Hi Rohden, welcome...
If the electric start is no must, you can also do with the DR650RS.
It is similar to the RSE but without the electric starter.
Only you can get it cheaper...
Last seen at mobile.de 20500km / 800 euro.
DR650RS
A RSE in good shape you should get for 1400 euro, the SE from 2000
upwards.
Buying the bike in Germany is no problem, as long as you register it in Brazil.
I have no idea how long it takes to send the papers to Brazil and get the number plate back.
The other option might be to "life" in Germany.
Means to rent a room or flat (only nominal) and register the bike in Germany.
For this you need to know someone here, who give you the adress.
About the trip to Russia you should contact volkerastrath, a member of
this forum with actually knowledge.

Hello Reginaldo,
nice pictures of your journey to the Salar Uyuni.
Where do you live in Brazil? I have got some friends in Rio and Brasilia. Beautifull country and many very nice people. When are you planing to come to Germany?
If you are coming to Germay, you will find a place in my apartment or in the house of my family and friends.
Additionally to Ulf some Information about the different Types of the DR 650 who were sold in Germany:
DR650RS or RSE:

I don't know any special Fuel-Tank-Tuning for the SP42 (R-S) or SP43 (RSE).
If you will change the to a bigger Fueltank, you must change also the wind shield and the Frame. The Original tank takes only 19,6 litre.
The alternative DR 650 bikes from Suzuki are the
DR 650 Dakar (SP41)
Original

My Dakar

I put a 36l tank from Motoforms on my bike. But this tank is very hard to find. The Dakar got only a Kickstarter. You can get it also in good condtion for low Money. I bought my with 22.000 km und payed 600 Euros. But thats was a very low price;-)
I made the following changes:
Acerbis steering wheel
Motoforms tank 36l
Wilbers suspension shock
Stahlflex brake
Acerbis handguards
Hepco+Becker caseholder
Sebring exhaust
You can get the DAKAR in the good condition between 1000-1500 € . Some driver reported problems with the durability of the engine. My runs however since 31000 km without any problem.
DR 650 SP44 (Kickstarter) or SP45 (E-starter)
For thes Type you can get Acerbis Fueltanks (26l). If you have luck, you get you fully equipped machines with caseholder, Acerbis Fueltank and various accessories.
May be a friend sell next year his DR650 with Acerbis Fuel Tank and casholders.
Original:

With Acerbis Fuel Tank:

DR650SE SP46
May be the best choice. The engine its very reliable. Also the Acerbis tank for the SP44 can be adapted with some changes.
DR 650 SE with SP44-45 Acerbis Fueltank

or you buy a OTR tank with 30l volume.
But this tank costs 525 Euro!!!!!!

You can get the DR650 SE in good condition between 2000-2500 Euro.
Good Web Pages for the motorcycle search are:
http://www.mobile.de (also in English)
or
http://www.motoscout24.de (only German)
or
http://www.ebay.de
direct search
EBAY DR 650
At ebay you will find a lot of bikes and used spare parts for the DR 650.
A dealer for new spare parts you will find here:
http://www.dr-big-shop.de
Asked Stefan, its the owner of the shop, for traveling to Russia. He went there this summer. But notice, may be the condition to get a visa for Russia it is different for a Brasilian.
Best wishes
Olaf

ReserveUlf hat geschrieben:one small correction, the fuel capacity
of RSE and RS is 19.6 litres.

Hello Rohden!
When you would like to ride a motorbike in europe with the Brasilian driving license, you need a international driving license. You get it by an lokal automobile club like the ADAC in Germany or the ÖAMTC or ARBÖ in Austria.
If you want to registrate a motorcycle you need an agreement that you have an registratet residence, in the country where you want registrate the motorcycle. You get it from the "Meldeamt".
Then you need the contract of sale of the motorcycle and an actual technical report of the vehikel. These regulations maybe different in each european country. For Exampel in Austria it costs about 160 € to registrate a Motorcycle.
Remember Austria not Australia.
We have no Kangaroos, just Mozart Sound and Mulikuhs.

but the seat has to be change
but most of these Tanks are designed only for the DR650SE; maybe it's possible to mount it on the other DR-modells.

@HROlaf,

Ohne Aufenthaltstitel kein Wohnsitz, ohne Wohnsitz keine Fahrzeugzulassung. Also Ausfuhrkennzeichen!?
